Week 7 Day 2
S- Psalm 46:1-2 "God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear, though the earth give way and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea"
O- God is ALWAYS with us. He is bigger than all the problems that we may have at any time. I saw a comment today that I thought was really good "Don't tell God how big our fears are, tell our fears how big our God is!!" What a great perspective!
A- Have faith! God is always present. Seek him! He doesn't give us more than we can handle. Don't fear for what could happen. Trust God that He has everything under control. And it is good! He is my refuge who gives me strength! Praise God!
P- Thank you God for showing me your promises! Thank you that you are here now and always. I pray that I would seek you when times are hard and you don't seem close, because you are close always! I pray that I would seek you in good times, because they are from you! Thank you for not giving me too much. Thank you for being my refuge and strength. I pray that I would share your promises with Zac and Lucy and they would know your love for them! Amen!
Week 7 Day 3
S- Proverbs 31:22 "She makes coverings for her bed; she is clothed in fine linen and purple."
1 Timothy 2:9-10 "I also want women to dress simply. They should wear clothes that are right and proper. They shouldn't braid their hair. They shouldn't wear gold or pearls. They shouldn't spend too much on clothes. Instead, they should put on good works as if they were their clothes. That is proper for women who claim to worship God."
O- I don't know for sure, but when I read Ti. 2:9-10 I thought it was Titus. The reading didn't match up with the Proverbs verse so I'm guessing it's 1 Timothy. We have learned she is smart with her money and generous to help the needy, but she also invests in dressing nicely. She is smart with her money. I love that the Timothy verse says to put on good works as if they were clothes. To show that we live our lives for good for God!
A- Be smart with my money. Help others, but also invest in ourselves. I also love that it talks about her being smart with her finances and that she helps the poor before talking about how she is dressed nicely. We can dress nicely without over spending. Do good things to show my love for God for the world to see that He lives in me!
P- Dear God, thank you for showing us that we should be balanced in how we spend our money. That we should be smart in our spending and have enough to help others as well as ourselves! Please help me to put on my good works as if they were clothes, so that people will see you in me. May your light shine through me! Amen!
From the blog HERE...
I love how this verse comes after we learn about her money management skills, her work ethic and her generosity. She is not a woman of leisure. She is not a woman who “shops til she drops” and spends all her money. She is not a woman who hoards and only thinks of herself.
She is a woman who is balanced.
She wisely invests in others and also invests in herself.
God has created women with the desire to make things beautiful. It’s okay to want to make our homes beautiful and to wear beautiful clothing…..we just need to be balanced in how we do those things.
In Ezekiel 16:10-14 we read how God clothes His beloved wife, Israel:
“I clothed you with an embroidered dress and put leather sandals on you. I dressed you in fine linen and covered you with costly garments. I adorned you with jewelry. I put bracelets on your arms and a necklace around your neck, and I put a ring on your nose, earrings on your ears and a beautiful crown on your head. So you were adorned with gold and silver; your clothes were of fine linen and costly fabric and embroidered cloth”. …declares the Sovereign Lord.
Looking at how God “clothed” Israel and how the Proverbs 31 woman was clothed, we can see that it’s okay to have and wear nice things. The problem occurs is when we begin to worship the “things” instead of the one who gave them to us.
"I like the thought of this hardworking woman strolling elegantly through the streets of her town in her fine attire. Certainly she was neither over-dressed nor extravagant, but, given her character, she wore what was appropriate and fitting of a godly, queenly woman who reveled in the fact that she was the daughter of the King of the universe." - Elizabeth George
Week 7 Day 4
S- 1 Peter 3:3-4 "Your beauty should not come from outward adornment, such as elaborate hairstyles and the wearing of gold jewelry or fine clothes. Rather, it should be that of your inner self, the unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is of great worth in God’s sight."
O- A gentle and quiet spirit is of great worth.
A- I want to have a gentle and quiet spirit. Vickie is a great example of this. It's one of my favorite qualities about her.
P- Lord, please help me to be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry. Thank you again for the changes you have made in me. That I have come a long way and am getting better at all of these things. I realize I still have a lot to work on and I thank you in advance for helping me. I pray that I would have a gentle and quiet spirit that comes straight from you. Thank you for inner beauty. Thank you for the beauty of all the women in this group inside and out.
