Week 7 Monday
S- Luke 7:7, 9 "7 That is why I did not even consider myself worthy to come to you. But say the word, and my servant will be healed." "9
When Jesus heard this, he was amazed at him, and turning to the crowd following him, he said, “I tell you, I have not found such great faith even in Israel.”"
O- This man had great faith. He trusted that Jesus could heal just by speaking. Jesus was amazed.
A- How great is my faith? I often get caught up in forgetting to rely fully on Jesus. Specifically, this week Zac had been struggling with sleeping. Falling asleep and staying asleep. I was getting so frustrated and wanting to help, but did not know what he needed or how to make him feel better. I realized I was wanting to do all the work to make my child feel better. God knows just what Zac needed and I finally realized that I needed to trust that. He slept much better last night, only waking once and falling asleep much quicker!
Another quick story on the same subject. I had told Zac that when we are scared we can pray and God will give us peace and help us to feel better. After a couple of nights of telling Zac that Jesus brings us peace, I was wondering if he was understanding. I told him again and prayed with him. He was crying and upset and as soon as I prayed for peace, Zac immediately stopped crying and fell asleep. Peace! I love when God answers our prayers so clearly.
P- Thank you God for hearing our prayers. Thank you that you always answer, whether we notice right away or not. You know our needs and provide just what we need and more. Your timing is perfect. You are so faithful. You alone are perfect. You alone are God.
Week 7 Tuesday
S- Luke 7:13-15 "When the Lord saw her, his heart went out to her and he said, “Don’t cry.” Then he went up and touched the bier they were carrying him on, and the bearers stood still. He said, “Young man, I say to you, get up!” The dead man sat up and began to talk, and Jesus gave him back to his mother."
O- Jesus raised this man from death. He is fully God and fully man. Jesus' heart went out to her. He showed emotion as we do.
A- I can't imagine seeing someone raise from death. Verse 16 says, "They were all filled with awe and praised God."
P- Dear God, thank you that we are able to read miracles you fulfilled through Jesus. Thank you that Jesus was human and had emotions and experienced life as we do. Thank you that He lived a perfect, sinless life. Thank you for stories like this in the Bible and stories we hear in our lives to grow our faith in you. In Jesus' name I pray, Amen.
Week 7 Wednesday
S- Luke 7:33-35 "For John the Baptist came neither eating bread nor drinking wine, and you say, ‘He has a demon.’ The Son of Man came eating and drinking, and you say, ‘Here is a glutton and a drunkard, a friend of tax collectors and sinners.’ But wisdom is proved right by all her children.”"
O- The people were pointing out flaws where there were none. But those who were wise were proved right, that John and Jesus were godly in their differences.
A- People may get frustrated when I am sharing the Gospel or talk about Jesus. They may seek flaws, which there are plenty of flaws in me personally. But the Gospel and Jesus are not flawed. They are perfect and worth sharing even when people point out the things they see as flaws.
P- Thank you God that you are perfect. Thank you that my faith in you is enough. Thank you that although I am so flawed, I am made perfect in you. Please help me to be courageous and strong when my flaws are pointed out. Keep my eyes on you. Because of my problems, I need you!
Week 7 Thursday
S- Luke 7:41-43 "“Two people owed money to a certain moneylender. One owed him five hundred denarii, and the other fifty. Neither of them had the money to pay him back, so he forgave the debts of both. Now which of them will love him more?” Simon replied, “I suppose the one who had the bigger debt forgiven.” “You have judged correctly,” Jesus said."
O- The one with the bigger debt forgiven would love him more. The woman anointing Jesus' feet showed Him love because she knew her sin and knew she needed Jesus. She showed her love for Jesus. The Pharisee did not.
A- This made me think that if we are unaware of our sin and the penalty it brings, it would be so difficult to see the need for Jesus and to show Him thanks. Thinking back to when I became a Christian, I don't think I was fully aware of my sin and that because of one sin I deserved hell. Since being saved, my sin is more clear to me. I realize how hurtful even one sin is to Jesus and that my sin is why He died on the cross. I am so much more thankful as my sin is shown to me. Daily. The more I know Him, the more I love Him.
P- Thank you Jesus for your sacrifice. Thank you that you were thinking of me when you were hung on the cross. You died for me. Thank you for showing me my sin and my need for you. Thank you for making me want to live like you. I pray that I would keep my eyes on Heaven. Thank you that this life is just temporary. I love you!
Week 7 Friday
S- Luke 7:47, 50 "47 Therefore, I tell you, her many sins have been forgiven—as her great love has shown. But whoever has been forgiven little loves little.”" "50 Jesus said to the woman, “Your faith has saved you; go in peace.”"
O- Jesus forgave her many sins. She was saved by faith.
A- Our faith is enough to save us. Jesus told the woman "Your faith has saved you;" She wasn't saved by anything she did, but by her faith.
P- Thank you God that we are saved by faith. Thank you for your forgiveness of our many sins. Thank you for your great love in me. I pray that I will show my great love for you in return.
