Week 6 Monday–Friday

Week 6 Monday

S- Luke 6:9-10 "Then Jesus said to them, “I ask you, which is lawful on the Sabbath: to do good or to do evil, to save life or to destroy it?”  He looked around at them all, and then said to the man, “Stretch out your hand.” He did so, and his hand was completely restored."

O- Jesus is teaching to do good and to save life.  We should not be legalistic.

A- There are many things in the Bible that we can be legalistic about.  Keeping the Sabbath Day holy is one of them.  It is always important to do good and save lives, rather than destroy them.  The disciples ate the grain on the Sabbath and Jesus healed.  They worked to save lives.

P- Dear God, I pray that you would help me to make the Sabbath a holy day.  A day of rest.  It's easy for me to see it as another day of the week.  I pray that you would help me to keep my focus on you.  You know that we need rest.  Thank you for reminding me of this.  Also, I pray that I would not be legalistic about things, but rather do good things for you.  In Jesus' name I pray, Amen.

Week 6 Tuesday

S- Luke 6:20-23 "Looking at his disciples, he said: “Blessed are you who are poor, for yours is the kingdom of God. Blessed are you who hunger now, for you will be satisfied. Blessed are you who weep now, for you will laugh. Blessed are you when people hate you, when they exclude you and insult you and reject your name as evil, because of the Son of Man. “Rejoice in that day and leap for joy, because great is your reward in heaven. For that is how their ancestors treated the prophets."

O & A- We will be rewarded in Heaven!  I especially love, "Blessed are you when people hate you, when they exclude you and insult you and reject your name as evil, because of the Son of Man. “Rejoice in that day and leap for joy, because great is your reward in heaven."  It is hard and scary to share the Gospel.  For me this is just what I fear - hate, insult, reject, exclusion.  And Jesus is saying that I am blessed.  And I should rejoice and leap for joy in this.  When I do share the Gospel or talk to people about Jesus I do find joy!  I am excited to share with Luke what God gave me the guts to say!  It certainly doesn't come from me!  He gives me words that are much better than I could come up with!

P- Thank you God for giving me words when mine aren't enough!  You always give me just the right things to say.  Thank you for moments of courage and boldness when I feel fear.  Thank you for the joy I feel when I talk about you and share your good news.  I pray that you would continue to use me for your glory.  Make me bold.  I pray that I would not let these fears get the best of me.  Thank you for being my strength when I am weak.  In Jesus' name I pray, Amen!

Week 6 Wednesday

S- Luke 6:35-36 "But love your enemies, do good to them, and lend to them without expecting to get anything back. Then your reward will be great, and you will be children of the Most High, because he is kind to the ungrateful and wicked. Be merciful, just as your Father is merciful."

O- Love!  Do good without expecting anything in return.  Be kind to the ungrateful and wicked.  Show mercy.

A- Mercy is not getting what we deserve and grace is getting what we do not deserve.  I need to love even those who are difficult to love.  Even to those who are ungrateful.  Love without expecting anything in return.  As Jesus loves me when I am so undeserving!

P- Dear God, thank you for your unconditional love.  Thank you for your mercy and grace.  Please help me to remember how undeserving I am and yet you love me anyway.  Help me to love like you do.  I pray that I would do good for you and not for a reward here on earth.  My reward is in Heaven!  Thank you!  In Jesus' name I pray, Amen!

Week 6 Thursday

S- Luke 6:37 "“Do not judge, and you will not be judged. Do not condemn, and you will not be condemned. Forgive, and you will be forgiven."

O- Do not judge.  Do not condemn.  Forgive.

A- We are all guilty.  We all sin.  God is the judge.  Forgive others as He forgives me.

P- Dear God, please help me to not seek faults in others.  I pray that my eyes would be on you.  Help me to see my own sin as it reminds me of why I need you.  Help me to see them, so that I can ask you to improve in those areas.  Thank you for forgiving my sins and making a way to wipe my slate clean, so that I may have eternal life with you.  In Jesus' name I pray, Amen.

Week 6 Friday

S- Luke 6:45, 49 "45 A good man brings good things out of the good stored up in his heart, and an evil man brings evil things out of the evil stored up in his heart. For the mouth speaks what the heart is full of."  "49 But the one who hears my words and does not put them into practice is like a man who built a house on the ground without a foundation. The moment the torrent struck that house, it collapsed and its destruction was complete.”"

O- The mouth speaks what the heart is full of.  If we only listen, but do not obey, we will be taken down.

A- I need to fill my heart with God's truth.  I speak what is on my heart and if it is full of trash that is what will come out of my mouth.  I want Jesus on my lips always.  I want to be encouraging and uplifting.  I need to obey what the Bible teaches.  I do not want to be destroyed, because I have not obeyed God.  I want my roots to be deep with Him.

P- Dear God, thank you for your truth.  Thank you that I can trust all that you have promised.  Please help me to fill my heart with you, so that you overflow from me.  I pray that I would not just hear your words, but that I would obey you.  I love you, Lord!
