Week 5 Monday–Friday

Week 5 Monday

S- Luke 5:6, 11 "6 When they had done so, they caught such a large number of fish that their nets began to break." "11 So they pulled their boats up on shore, left everything and followed him."

O- Simon obeyed Jesus and was blessed by so many fish that the nets broke.  They instantly left everything and followed Jesus.

A- How obedient am I?  Would I drop everything at the blink of an eye like they did?  I need to remember that I can fully trust Jesus and that it would be ok to drop everything at an instant.  What do I need to leave behind to show my trust to Him?

P- Thank you God that I can trust you fully.  You and you only.  Please show me what I need to leave to obey you and show my trust to you.  I know you have great plans for me and I don't want to put anything above you.  I love you greatly.  In Jesus' name I pray, Amen.

Week 5 Tuesday

S- Luke 5:13-14, 16 "13-14 Jesus reached out his hand and touched the man. “I am willing,” he said. “Be clean!” And immediately the leprosy left him.  Then Jesus ordered him, “Don’t tell anyone, but go, show yourself to the priest and offer the sacrifices that Moses commanded for your cleansing, as a testimony to them.”"  "16 But Jesus often withdrew to lonely places and prayed."

O- Jesus speaks and the man is immediately healed.  Jesus OFTEN withdrew to lonely places and prayed.

A- How often do I go to lonely, quiet places to pray?  When is my house quiet?  Ha!  I need to be more focused on chances that I have to withdraw and pray to God.  To turn everything off and sit in peace and listen.

P- Dear God, thank you for being faithful even when I am not.  Thank you that you are patient.  Thank you that you hear me.  Thank you that you know my heart.  Please help me to make time for you alone.  In Jesus' name I pray, Amen.

Week 5 Wednesday

S- Luke 5:20, 22-24 "20 When Jesus saw their faith, he said, “Friend, your sins are forgiven.”"  "22-24 Jesus knew what they were thinking and asked, “Why are you thinking these things in your hearts? Which is easier: to say, ‘Your sins are forgiven,’ or to say, ‘Get up and walk’? But I want you to know that the Son of Man has authority on earth to forgive sins.” So he said to the paralyzed man, “I tell you, get up, take your mat and go home.”

O- Jesus is God in the flesh!  Proof that Jesus is God.  Only God can forgive sins.  Only God can heal.  The people saw Jesus do these things and were filled with awe.

A- One of the hardest things for me to explain (or even make sense to myself) is that God, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit are one.  I love seeing these proofs that Jesus is God.  I believe it completely, yet it is hard to understand.  "Now faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see." Hebrews 11:1.

P- Thank you God for showing me the proof that Jesus is God in the flesh.  That you came as a man, as a baby!  Thank you that even when it's hard to understand that your word is 100% truth.  It can not be changed to what we want or what would be easier to understand.  It is truth.  It is perfect.  You are perfect!  In Jesus' name I pray, Amen.

Week 5 Thursday

S- Luke 5:31-32 "Jesus answered them, “It is not the healthy who need a doctor, but the sick. I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance.”"

O- Jesus spent time with those who needed Him.  He loved and taught the sinners.

A- I can easily find myself frustrated with people.  When I am reminded that they don't know Jesus, my heart changes from frustration to wanting to tell them the good news.

P- Dear God, thank you for saving me from my sinful ways.  Thanks you that you did not give up on me.  Please help me to not get frustrated when people act differently than myself.  Please help me to see that they need you.  I pray that you would use me to share your good news.  Help me to spend time with those that don't know you, as well as those that do.  In Jesus' name I pray, Amen!

Happy Valentine's Day!  I love each of you!

Week 5 Friday

S- Luke 5:34-35 "Jesus answered, “Can you make the friends of the bridegroom fast while he is with them? But the time will come when the bridegroom will be taken from them; in those days they will fast.”"

O- This section was hard for me to understand.  After reading my handy dandy Study Bible, it is more clear.  In that time the festivities of a wedding lasted a week.  "It was unthinkable to fast during such festivities, because fasting was associated with sorrow."  Jesus is the bridegroom and would be taken from them, then they would fast.

A- Luke and I have been talking about fasting lately.  I have only fasted once and didn't really understand how it worked or why.  This reminds me that I should fast for Jesus.  To show my love for Jesus.  To be reminded of His sacrifice.

P- Dear God, thank you that this study of Luke has made me dig deeper into my Bible.  That I am not just reading your word, but wanting to understand it more clearly.  Thank you for teaching me through these wonderful women.  Thank you for their encouragement.  Thank you for your sacrifice.  I pray that I would remember it always.  That it would be on my mind to show me that I need you.  Jesus died for me!  Thank you!
