Lucy Ann Swilor

Lucy’s here!  Here’s her story.

I started having contractions at about 6:00 on Friday after spending some great quality time with Luke and Zac fishing.  When we got home, I asked Luke to make an extra lap around the apartments to hit the speed bumps.  Right after that my contractions picked up.  I had been having them all the way home and the bumps made them stronger.  We had dinner and I told Luke we should take Zac to his mom’s just in case.  Of course, as we left things slowed down.  We stayed there for awhile and decided to come home.  I just wanted to sleep.  I told Luke that if we take Zac home, I’ll end up going into labor and we’d have to wake him up in the middle of the night.  And that if we left him there nothing would happen.  We took him home and got to bed.  I started having stronger contractions after I laid down.  I got up to go to the bathroom around 11:30 and was bleeding, so off to the hospital we went.

Poor Zac couldn’t figure out what was going on.  Why would we wake him up and take him to this place in the middle of the night?  Grandma Kelli and Grandpa Milan came and got him and took him to bed.SANY0013-1

We got checked in just after midnight.  I had told them that my contractions were between 3 and 7 minutes apart.  When she hooked me up she told me they were closer than that.  Luke said at that point they were about 4 minutes apart.  And they hurt!  I had to wait til 1:30 to get my epidural.  That wait was not fun.  I was dilated to a 4 when we got there and when I got my epidural was at a 5.  I had the worst body shakes most of the night.  The anesthesiologist was getting after me cause I couldn’t hold still.  Once I got the epidural, things were so much easier and I comfortably waited for my body to do it’s thing.  Lucy’s heart rate started dropping as I was having contractions, so I got to wear the oxygen mask to help her out.  There for a minute we thought we were going to have to get a C-Section.  I’m so thankful that wasn’t the case.  It got better and I was progressing quickly.  When she was born the cord was wrapped around her leg.  SANY0015SANY0016-1

The nurse came in and checked me and said this baby is coming!  I was so glad that I was not going to be pushing for over 2 hours like I did with Zac!  It only took 3 contractions and she was out!  Easy breezy!  I had minimal tearing.  I could pretty much just say this was the complete opposite experience I had with Zac.  My placenta didn’t want to come out on it’s own, so the doctor had to separate it from my uterus by hand.  Another reason to be very thankful for the epidural!  I didn’t feel a thing!

She was just a tiny little thing!  She weighed in at 6 lb 2 oz and was only 17 1/2 inches long.  I still can’t get over how tiny she is!

My whole pregnancy I kept saying that she needed her own birthday and shouldn’t come on her Daddy’s birthday.  So, of course she did!  She was born on her Dad’s 30th birthday, which also makes her and Zac exactly 13 months apart.  Luke was happy that it will take the attention off of him now.  She made her arrival at 4:49 am.SANY0018SANY0019SANY0022SANY0025

She’s a strong girl.  She has been lifting her head since they first laid her on my chest.SANY0034SANY0035

She has long, skinny, pretty, dainty, little girl hands.  Luke said it looked like she came out with Lee Press On Nails.SANY0040

My mom was there for the delivery again this time.  Since Lucy came in the middle of the night, there was no fan fair.  It was a nice personal experience this time.  Completely different than having everyone there waiting for Zac to be born.  SANY0053-1Grandma was just a little excited!SANY0054SANY0056SANY0057SANY0059SANY0064SANY0065

God has blessed us with another sweet, sweet baby!  I am so thankful that I had such an easy delivery this time.  She is a pro at breastfeeding.  She latched on the very first try.  I didn’t even need the nurses to help out at all.  With Zac it was a nightmare and I was not looking forward to it at all!  That was definitely an answered prayer!  Her blood sugar did drop a little, so I had to supplement with formula while we were in the hospital.  I remember Zac being a total boy as soon as he was born, and she is definitely a dainty little girl.  We love her so much!

She's BEAUITUFL! Congrats you guys! I am so glad it went smoothly and that she is nursing well for you. My second go around at nursing was much better too (just like you, def an answer to prayers). I hope everything continues to go well. I can't believe your kids are only 13 months a part and that she came on Luke's 30th! How wonderful. So are you ready to get pregnant again in 4 months? ha ha ha just teasing you!
