INTRODUCING:

Weighing 7 lbs 10 oz and Measuring in at 19 inches long
The night before I got induced, we were so excited that in only one day we would meet our boy!
We went to the hospital at 7:00 am to be induced. I was already dilated to a 4 when we got there, so we were expecting things to move along pretty quickly. We were wrong. I started on the Pitocin between 8:00 and 8:30. My midwife broke my water a couple hours later. Things slowly progressed. There were lots of babies being born that day, so they suggested I take the epidural sooner than later to be sure I wouldn’t have to wait too long if they were busy. I decided to take it as soon as the anesthesiologist was done with her C-section. As soon as I asked for it, I started feeling quite a bit of pain. They told me I could take Fentanyl, so I did. Biggest mistake! It was the worst drug ever. It’s 100 times stronger than Morphine. I felt awful. I cried for an hour and was so out of it. Thankfully it wore off. I got my epidural while I was still feeling the crappy effects of the Fentanyl. The epidural was cake. I was more scared of getting that than having the baby. haha My mom showed up right after I took the Fentanyl and she must have thought I was dying. I couldn’t even keep my eyes open and couldn’t stop crying. Once it wore off I was fine and just waited for things to progress so I could meet my boy!
Family started showing up waiting for the little guys arrival. I got a bit overwhelmed that so many people were waiting and things were not happening very fast. I hear Ashley kept them all pretty entertained. They were all troopers and hung out in the waiting areas coming in here and there for updates.
My midwife thinks things weren’t moving very quickly because his head was turned the wrong way. I was told I was dilated to an 8 and she asked me to push a few times to see if we could help the guy move down a little more. She had me switch sides I was laying on to try to turn him around. Luke was a great coach and was so comforting to me through the whole process. I am so impressed with how awesome he has been during this whole ordeal. I am more in love than ever! It has been the best experience.
After 2 hours of pushing Zac made his grand entrance at 9:39 pm. They put my baby boy on my chest and Luke cut the cord. I am so in love with my little boy! He is the sweetest. Luke and my mom took lots of pictures as they cleaned him up. I was so happy watching Luke stare at his baby boy. He is the proudest daddy. It’s the coolest feeling ever being a mommy and daddy to our little man. We are loving it!
Because of my high blood pressure, I was so swollen everywhere. I didn’t realize just how swollen I was. I tore a lot because of it. I swear she just kept stitching me up for so long. I’m so thankful for that epidural. I kept pushing the button to give me more of the epidural medicine throughout the day. It felt like it kept starting to wear off. I couldn’t walk until late afternoon the next day.
Once they got Zac all cleaned up and me all taken care of, we let Grandma Kelli in to meet Zac. Then the Grandpa’s, aunts and uncles, and everyone else. It was about 10:30 before they got to see him. I still can’t believe they all stuck around that long. It was great.
After everyone left, Luke got to go with Zac for his first bath. They finally switched us to our new room. We didn’t get to bed until 3:00 am. We had the nurses take Zac to the nursery and just had him with us when he needed to eat through the rest of the night to try to get some rest. We stayed one more night in the hospital before taking Zac home on Thursday afternoon.
We decided to not to name him Zachary. I just couldn’t imagine calling him Zachary. He’s just Zac. Zac Milan Swilor. He has also taken on the nickname Buster.
We took Zac to the Pediatrician on Friday, because his eyes were still pretty goopy in the hospital and they wanted to check him for jaundice. That stinkin’ heel poke made me cry right along with Zac. It was awful. He had lost a full pound in just 3 days and the doctor suggested that after I nurse him to also give him a 2 oz bottle to make sure he’s getting enough food. Saturday he was struggling with latching and I got so overwhelmed and felt like a bad mom for not being able to give my baby the food he needs. It was awful. I was trying so hard to nurse and he was getting so upset. As soon as he’d take the bottle I would just start leaking all over. Thankfully we have gotten the hang of it since.
They put me on blood pressure medicine for a day and a half while we were in the hospital. It went down and they decided I didn’t need it anymore. Saturday, Me, Luke, and my Mom went to the store for a few things. I decided to check my blood pressure while we were out. It was extremely high! I called my midwife and she said to go straight to the ER. I got admitted and put on Magnesium. The Magnesium slows down your whole body. It’s supposed to keep you from having seizures. It also meant I could not move from my bed. It wiped me out. Luke got to learn to be a daddy pretty quick. He had to do all the feedings and diaper changes through the night. He was a champ. Once again, I was super impressed. It was the worst feeling for me being a new mom and not being able to take care of my crying baby that was right next to me. I just held him as often as I could. We got sent home Sunday night at 10:30. Since being home, we have had to increase the medication and are still working on getting it more stable. It seems to go up every evening. Luckily we haven’t had to go back to the hospital. Usually high blood pressure goes away as soon as the baby is born, but in some cases it gets worse. Mine got worse. It should all balance out within 6 weeks. Hopefully sooner. I was told to take it really easy. It’s almost like bed rest all over again. I can’t wait for things to get to our new normal.
Looking at these last pictures when I was back in the hospital, I realize how swollen I was. When I got up to get out of the hospital bed and looked down at my legs I was shocked how much fluid was sucked right out of me. My legs were like toothpicks. haha I was actually grossed out by how small they were and they have no muscle! I guess that’s one good thing that happened because of all of this. I was back to my pre-prego weight 8 days after I had him. Crazy!
I’m so blessed to have this sweet baby and both of us are doing so much better now. Thank God!
