Over the past 6 months we started to notice that Zac's eyes cross sometimes. We took him to a pediatric eye doctor in August and were told he was far sighted and would need glasses. After praying about it, we decided to wait to get the glasses and scheduled another appointment with a different doctor to get a second opinion. We had that appointment last week. The doctor told us that usually kids that have crossed eyes are much more far sighted than he is. The prescription he gave us showed us that Zac's eyes were not as far sighted as the first doctor. He gave us some options to fix his eyes.
We can try glasses, which may fix the problem completely, or may cause them to cross less, or may do nothing. Zac may need to have surgery on one of his eyes to fix it. And in rare cases crossed eyes can be a symptom of more serious problems in the brain. This can be tested for with an MRI.
The doctor suggested to try glasses for 6 weeks and go back to have his eyes checked again to see if they have changed at all. If the glasses fix the problem, then he will continue to wear glasses and over years it may go away completely on its own. If the glasses give him some improvement, then surgery on the eye muscles would be the next step. If the glasses don't do anything that would give us reason to have an MRI done to test for the more serious problems. We've ordered his glasses..
We would appreciate your prayers that God would heal Zac's eyes. We know that God is the Ultimate Healer and he CAN heal anything. We'll also be praying for wisdom as we know we have some difficult decisions to make and want to do what's best for Zac and will honor God. Also, that Zac will adjust well to wearing the glasses and that he will keep them on.
So far today, he has kept the cool "sunglasses" on that the doctor gave him after having his eyes dilated. He's our cool dude!
Thanks so much for your prayers! We'll keep you updated. God bless!
