I’m skipping a few posts I’m behind on for a prego update. And if this doesn’t make sense, I blame the morphine that is running through my body. Really.
I failed my first glucose test awhile back and got to take the fun 3 hour glucose test. I passed, but just barely. I am borderline and was warned if I had another weight jump that I’d be retested. Today, I had another weight jump. My doctor decided to just call me a diabetic, since I have quite a few of the symptoms. Jump in my weight. My numbers being so close to going over the limit. Giant baby. He’s been measuring 3 weeks early and this time 4 1/2 weeks early, I’m 34 weeks and 2 days and he’s measuring at 39. The thought of giving birth to a giant baby is quite terrifying.
I was sent to have a stress test on the baby right after my appointment, which I will get to do weekly until he’s here now. They checked the amniotic fluid to make sure there’s not too much or too little. It was perfect. And we got to have a quick little ultrasound. He has hair! I was sure I’d have a little baldy. That was exciting. Then they hooked me up to the monitor to check his heart rate. Everything was great with the little squirt. The monitor also showed that I was having mild contractions every 2-5 minutes. I’ve had braxton hicks for awhile now, so the contractions are nothing to me. And they don’t hurt. The nurse called my doctor and they decided to send me to labor & delivery. As soon as she told me that my blood pressure sky rocketed. The nurse laughed at me. I just couldn’t believe I was being sent down there and I couldn’t even feel any pain. I was shocked.
I went to labor & delivery and got hooked up to the monitor there and we waited. They checked me and his head is very low and am dilated to a 1. At our last appointment he was sideways/transverse in there. We were very relieved that he has moved into position. The contractions continued every 2 minutes. The nurses came in and put me on an IV for fluids and gave me some meds to slow things down. At 35 weeks they don’t stop labor. I am 34 weeks and 2 days. My blood pressure had gone down after the initial shock. My doctor came down and checked me again. They gave me another dose of the medicine to slow me down. After waiting awhile longer, they decided to give me a shot of morphine and sent me home to sleep. They figured since I wouldn’t have even called if I hadn’t had my appointment that I was just fine. I called my doctor to ask her some questions after they let me go. They had to watch me for a half hour after drugging me up. She was shocked I wasn’t slurring. I feel fine. In fact I can move, and bend, and roll over in bed without any pain! It’s amazing!
When Mandy was pregnant, Sam sent us a picture of her in the hospital bed like this once when she was just getting checked. We were all so excited that the baby was coming. It was a cruel joke! So, I played it back. I sent them this pic and just said “Labor & Delivery”. It didn’t take long for them to call. I loved that she said “That was so mean!” I know. I remember. haha
I have my last baby shower Saturday and my 10 year high school reunion. I hope I make it without my water breaking during either of those events. And prayers continue that this little guy doesn’t get here before he’s ready. Praying for a healthy baby (that isn’t too much of a giant monster)!
